A lot of heme/onc docs see pt on chemo days which can be once a week. The schedule them for an office visit prior to getting chemo, thow a steth on their chest real quick and take advandage of a billling oppt. When you see a pt once a week the vist is fast, but still > 50 is near impossible.Heme/Onc: I find it more interesting than rheum and already have research in this field. However, I'm concerned with emotional burnout with the patient population and intensity of the fellowship as compared to rheum. Even after fellowship, I perceive heme/onc to be higher stress and work hrs than rheum, not sure if this is true.So yes, you need to be emotionally resilient. Until recently I thought hem/onc was a depressing field but a doctor I shadowed told me with the treatments more people are being saved than ever before. Saved is the wrong word. People are living longer with cancer, that much is true.Here are some data for hem/onc from the 2018 NRMP fellowship match data. 553 spots with 760 total applicants. 73 % matched, 27% went unmatched.
